Connecting the dots: a progressive vision for reimagining the social contract

In this conference concluding talk, Matthew Taylor will revisit his argument that we should think of societies in terms of the interaction of systems based on three core human motivations: authority, connectedness and individual aspiration. Setting these thoughts within our immediate public health crisis, Taylor will then argue that progressives must develop a systemic account of the essential elements of liberal democratic renewal and how only progressivism can save liberal democracy. Anke Hassel will respond, before opening up the discussion to an array of political leaders, policy wonks, and public intellectuals, who together will sketch out possible blueprints for progressive politics in the years to come.
