Seemi is first generation child of Pakistani immigrants, born and raised in Venezuela and educated in Chicago- she is a change agent, migration advocate and public policy enthusiast. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish. In 2016, Seemi joined the Mayor’s Office as the Director of the Office of New Americans for the City of Chicago. While working as the Director, Seemi launched a state-wide task force, initiated Chicago’s first-ever Legal Protection Fund, and expanded language access efforts all in an effort to provide comprehensive services to immigrants, refugees and other marginalized communities. Seemi recently completed the Robert Bosh Fellowship in Berlin, Germany focusing on Social Integration and Migration. As a Robert Bosch Fellow, she researched and presented on best practices across European municipalities and civic society to serve and include Europe’s migrant community in public policy and programming.
