Frans Timmermans is a Dutch politician and diplomat, who has served the European Commission since 2014. He is the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the Green Deal since 1 December 2019. Previously, he held office as the First Vice-President of the EU Commission to Jean-Claude Juncker, where he was in charge of Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. He was the lead candidate of the Party of European Socialists (PES) for the President of the European Commission in the 2019 European election. Before entering the European stage, he was a member of the Dutch Parliament for the Labour Party and served as Minister for European Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Netherlands.
