Prospects for EU reform and strategies for a new progressive agenda 2022+
Cerstin Gammelin in conversation with Wolfgang Schmidt
This session will consider the prospect of burden-sharing at the EU level in the wake of the global pandemic following the landmark joint-proposal last month by Chancellor Merkel and President Macron.
Key questions: To what extent is the socialisation of debt at EU level practically feasible and politically deliverable? Does this represent the next deep phase of European integration or a false dawn? Will the imminent departure of Chancellor Merkel and the forthcoming presidential election in 2022 play a major role in what happens?
